According to Microsoft this is a “Known issue” with Outlook when connecting to IMAP mail accounts: Gmail users that utilize Microsoft Outlook in Windows for their GMail IMAP connection have had to deal with this for years, however, people that are new to Microsoft Outlook may not be aware of this issue. One of these features is the answer to the posed question. With these strides comes features that may seem strange for many people on the Mac platform. They can both connect to Exchange accounts and they both can (finally) view Public Folders on those exchange accounts. However, in its creation of Outlook 2011 for Mac, Microsoft is making strides toward feature parity between the two platforms. THEY ARE NOT! Outlook for Windows has more communications features than most people would even know what to do with.
